Louisville, Kentucky – Up to 1.5 inches of rain could impact travel along I-65 and I-64 late Saturday into Sunday.
According to the US National Weather Service in Louisville, dry and mild conditions will continue through the end of the workweek as high pressure remains in control. Afternoon highs are expected in the upper 40s to mid-50s through Friday across central Kentucky.
A low pressure system moving over Tennessee will bring increasing rain chances beginning Saturday night. Rain is forecast to become widespread Sunday, with total rainfall amounts between 0.5 and 1.5 inches across the region.
Forecast data shows higher totals possible in south-central Kentucky, including Bowling Green and areas along the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass parkways. Louisville, Lexington, Elizabethtown and Owensboro are also expected to see steady rainfall through much of Sunday.
Periods of moderate to occasionally heavy rain may create ponding on roadways and reduced visibility, especially along I-65 in Louisville, I-64 toward Frankfort, I-75 near Lexington and major state parkways. While flooding is not currently forecast, drivers may encounter standing water in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Forecasters expect dry weather to return Monday, with temperatures gradually warming into the middle of next week.
Weekend travelers, students returning to campus and Sunday commuters should allow extra time and monitor updated forecasts as rainfall develops.
