Louisville, Ky. – Drivers across Jefferson County should expect standing water and reduced visibility along I-64 and I-65 through 7 p.m. Sunday as steady rain drops up to 1.5 inches across central Kentucky before tapering off tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, widespread rain will continue through Sunday afternoon with total rainfall amounts between 0.5 and 1.5 inches. The heaviest pockets may develop south and east of the metro, but periods of moderate rain are likely across the entire I-71 and Gene Snyder Freeway corridor.
Low-lying stretches of I-264 and US-31W could see ponding water during heavier bursts, especially where storm drains remain clogged by winter debris. Motorists traveling toward Elizabethtown along I-65 or east toward Shelbyville on I-64 should allow extra travel time and increase following distance.
Temperatures will hold in the upper 40s to mid-50s Sunday, preventing wintry issues but keeping roads slick through the evening. Rain begins to taper late Sunday night, though areas of dense fog may develop after midnight and linger into early Monday morning, reducing visibility for the first commute of the week.
Drier and milder conditions return Monday with highs climbing into the upper 50s and low 60s. Another slight chance of rain arrives Tuesday night. Additional advisories could be issued if localized flooding or fog becomes more widespread overnight.
