Louisville, Kentucky — A brief shot of cold weather is moving through central Kentucky on Friday, bringing cloudy skies, scattered snow showers, and afternoon highs hovering in the mid-30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, Friday will begin with flurries and light snow showers across parts of the region, particularly during the morning hours. Skies are expected to gradually clear from southwest to northeast as the day progresses, allowing for some sunshine by the afternoon.

High temperatures Friday are forecast to reach the lower 30s across northern Kentucky, including areas near Madison and Frankfort, while southern portions of the state may see highs climb into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Louisville is expected to top out near 35 degrees.

Despite the cold start, forecasters said the chill will be short-lived. A warming trend is expected to begin over the weekend and continue into early next week. Highs on Saturday are projected to rise into the 50 to 57 degree range, followed by slightly cooler but still mild conditions Sunday with highs between 39 and 48 degrees.

By Monday, temperatures are expected to rebound again, with highs reaching the mid-40s to lower 50s across much of central Kentucky. Overnight lows will also moderate, reducing the risk of prolonged freezing conditions.

No significant precipitation is expected after Friday morning, and road conditions are anticipated to improve as skies clear. However, officials advise motorists to remain cautious during the early hours Friday, especially on bridges and untreated roads where brief slick spots could develop.

Commuters, students, and early-morning workers may feel the coldest impacts Friday before milder air returns this weekend.
