Louisville residents may see air quality risks and storm delays stack up as fall weather tightens its grip on Kentucky. By Monday night, thunderstorms could deliver heavy rain, gusty winds, and potential travel problems across Jefferson County and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Code Orange Air Quality Alert remains in effect through midnight Saturday. Ozone levels may cause health issues for sensitive groups, including children, seniors, and people with asthma or heart disease. Officials urge at-risk residents to limit outdoor activities and reduce prolonged exposure.

Thunderstorms become the bigger concern on Sunday and Monday. Scattered showers are expected Sunday afternoon, with stronger storms possible Monday evening. Gusty winds and hail could develop, particularly along I-64 and I-65 corridors during peak travel hours. Drivers should prepare for sudden downpours and reduced visibility.

Emergency officials caution residents to charge devices, secure outdoor furniture, and review safety plans before Monday. Spotter activation may be needed if storms intensify. Louisville Metro Police and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews could see delays in response times if flooding or wind damage occurs.

Conditions ease slightly Tuesday but showers linger through midweek. Highs remain near 80 with humid afternoons and cooler nights in the upper 60s.

Warnings remain in effect through tonight, and additional advisories are possible if Monday’s storms strengthen.
