Louisville, KY – A cold front sweeping through Kentucky today is expected to bring widespread rainfall and isolated thunderstorms, according to the US National Weather Service in Louisville. Forecasters say rain will continue through tonight, offering some drought relief but also posing a minor flood risk in areas hit hardest.
According to the NWS, most of the region can expect 1 to 3 inches of rain, with localized pockets of 3 to 5 inches or more, particularly across central and western Kentucky. While the rain will help replenish dry soil conditions, residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas are urged to monitor local alerts for possible minor flooding.
Showers are forecast to persist into late evening, with a few embedded thunderstorms possible. The Weather Service noted that severe weather is not anticipated, though a stronger storm could still form if afternoon clearing occurs—mainly in south-central Kentucky.
Cooler, drier air will move in behind the front by midweek, bringing more comfortable fall conditions across the state.
