Louisville, KY – A quiet and chilly start to the week will quickly turn unsettled as widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms move across central Kentucky and southern Indiana on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Louisville. Today remains dry under mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-50s to lower 60s.

According to the NWS, rain chances increase significantly after midnight and continue into Tuesday morning, with most locations seeing an 80 to 100 percent chance of rainfall throughout the day. Showers will be frequent, and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the late morning and afternoon hours. Areas including Louisville, Frankfort, Lexington, Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, and Madison, IN could all see multiple rounds of rain.

Forecasters note that while most storms will remain below severe thresholds, a few stronger thunderstorms may be capable of producing small hail. The highest potential for stronger cells appears to be during the afternoon, when instability slightly increases across the region.

Rain will gradually decrease late Tuesday evening as the system moves east, though wet roads and pooled water may linger into the overnight hours. Wednesday brings mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid-to-upper 40s and lower 50s.

An active weather pattern is expected to continue, with additional rounds of rainfall possible from Thursday through Saturday. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on forecast changes, especially for any shifts in thunderstorm strength or timing.
