Louisville, Kentucky – A weak weather system could bring isolated light snow to parts of the region late on New Year’s Eve, though most areas are expected to remain dry.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, there is a small chance for light snow tonight, primarily across southeast Indiana and north-central Kentucky, as a fast-moving disturbance crosses the region. Forecasters note that little to no accumulation is expected, with impacts expected to be minimal.

Temperatures tonight are forecast to dip into the upper 20s to lower 30s, which could briefly allow snowflakes to mix in before conditions dry out. The highest chance for snow is east and northeast of Louisville, while the Bluegrass region may see only passing flurries or remain dry.

For New Year’s Day (Thursday), precipitation chances decrease quickly, with dry weather expected across most of Kentucky and southern Indiana. High temperatures will range from the upper 30s to mid-40s, trending slightly milder into Friday and the weekend.

Motorists traveling late tonight along Interstate 64, Interstate 65, Interstate 71, and nearby state routes should remain alert for brief slick spots, especially on bridges and elevated roadways in areas where snow showers occur.

Most locations are expected to see seasonable temperatures and dry conditions heading into the first several days of the new year, with no significant winter weather impacts anticipated.

This update may be relevant for overnight workers, New Year’s Eve travelers, and early-morning commuters returning home after celebrations.
