Kentucky – A thin glaze shines on bridges and overpasses this morning, catching headlights and turning routine drives cautious. Light snow and freezing rain have mixed in at times, and even small changes in temperature are making a big difference on the roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midday. Mixed precipitation may leave up to an inch of snow and a light ice glaze. Slick spots are most likely on bridges, ramps, and untreated roads, especially near the Ohio River and across southern Indiana. Crews continue treating main routes, but conditions may change quickly.

Louisville sits in the low 20s early, with wind adding a bite. Temperatures rise toward the low 40s later today, allowing some melting. That break will be brief. Colder air returns late Thursday into Friday, setting the stage for another winter system. Snow becomes more likely late Friday into Saturday, with accumulating snow possible as colder air locks in.

Travel impacts could escalate quickly this weekend. Slush may refreeze after dark, increasing crash risk during evening travel. Drivers along I-64, I-65, and downtown surface streets should plan extra time and reduce speed. Pedestrians should watch steps on sidewalks and parking lots, where ice can linger.

Beyond the weekend, longer-range outlooks keep colder-than-normal air across the Ohio Valley while storm systems remain active. Additional advisories may be issued as confidence increases.
