Kentucky – Cold air hangs low over rooftops this morning as pavement stays dull and stiff under winter’s grip. Even before the next snow arrives, lingering slick spots keep drivers cautious, and the pattern ahead favors more trouble as the weekend nears.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, cold temperatures continue with wind chills in the single digits and teens. Light snow is expected Friday morning across southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky, with a dusting to around a half inch possible. Additional snow showers may return Friday night into Saturday, with slightly higher totals east of I-65 where up to 2 inches could coat roads.
In Louisville, Friday’s morning commute may turn slick quickly as light snow falls during colder hours. Even minor accumulation can reduce traction on I-64, I-65, and I-71, especially on bridges and elevated ramps. Some melting may occur during the afternoon, but refreezing is likely once temperatures drop again after sunset.
Saturday stays gray and cold with scattered snow showers. Highs struggle in the low 30s, and any untreated surface may ice over after dark. Sunday turns drier but colder, with highs near the mid-20s and another freezing night expected.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking. Residents are urged to protect pipes, check on pets, and limit time outdoors during colder nights. Conditions may look calm at times, but winter hazards can develop fast.
Cold weather holds into early next week, and additional advisories remain possible as systems move through.
