Louisville, KY – At 4:04 PM EST Sunday, the National Weather Service in Louisville issued an urgent cold weather update warning of another night of bitterly cold temperatures across central Kentucky and southern Indiana, with single-digit lows expected by Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, high pressure moving over the region tonight will bring light winds and clear skies, setting the stage for rapid temperature drops after sunset. Forecasters additionally warn that areas with snow on the ground will have the best chance of falling close to 0°F by daybreak.

The coldest readings are expected late tonight into early Monday morning, with much of the region waking up to single-digit temperatures, and some rural or snow-covered locations potentially dropping to or just above zero.

Officials say temperatures will fall steadily overnight, making late-night and early-morning travel particularly uncomfortable and potentially dangerous for anyone without adequate cold-weather protection. While widespread precipitation is not expected, the cold alone poses risks, especially for those without reliable heat.

The National Weather Service notes that Monday will be mostly sunny, which should help temperatures recover slightly during the afternoon. Highs are expected to reach the upper 20s to low 30s, offering some relief after the frigid start to the day.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and ensure pets are brought inside overnight. Homeowners should also take precautions to protect exposed pipes, especially in unheated areas.

This is expected to be the last night of the coldest air, but officials caution that winter conditions remain in place, and additional cold mornings are possible later this week.
