Shreveport, LA – Residents across Louisiana and neighboring states should prepare for a soggy weekend, as forecasters warn of several inches of rain from Friday through early Monday. The National Weather Service in Shreveport says a slow-moving upper low will bring prolonged rainfall across the Four-State region, potentially leading to localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals between 2 and 5 inches are expected across much of northwestern Louisiana, east Texas, southern Arkansas, and portions of southeast Oklahoma. The heaviest rain is likely to occur Friday night into early Saturday, when already saturated soils could lead to increased runoff and minor flooding.
Forecasters estimate 60–80% of the region could receive at least 2 inches of rain, with up to 5 inches possible in isolated spots near Shreveport and Tyler, Texas. The Weather Prediction Center has placed the entire area under a marginal risk (Level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall Friday and Saturday.
Drivers are urged to use caution, as heavy downpours could cause flash flooding and ponding on roads, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas. The NWS reminds residents: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
