Shreveport, Louisiana – A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. CST Saturday as severe thunderstorms threaten northwest Louisiana with possible tornadoes and damaging winds.

The watch includes Bossier, Caddo, De Soto and Sabine parishes, covering communities such as Shreveport, Bossier City, Mansfield and Many. Storms developing across East Texas are expected to move east into Louisiana through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, atmospheric conditions support tornado development, along with wind gusts that could exceed 60 mph and pockets of large hail. Storms may intensify quickly, especially along and north of Interstate 20.

Residents should stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions. A Tornado Watch means tornadoes are possible. If a Tornado Warning is issued, move immediately to a small, interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. Mobile homes are not safe in tornadoes and should be evacuated for sturdier shelter.

Heavy rain may also lead to brief street flooding in poor drainage areas. Drivers should avoid flooded roads and be prepared for sudden reductions in visibility.

Charge phones and keep weather alerts enabled through the evening. Outdoor plans should have a shelter plan ready as storms move across the region.
