Lake Charles, Louisiana – A blanket of Saharan dust is dimming Louisiana skies and driving up temperatures, with highs nearing 97°F by Friday across the Lake Charles region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, the dusty haze that settled over southwest Louisiana Monday is expected to hang around through at least Thursday. While it’s limiting scattered afternoon thunderstorms, it’s also reducing air quality — particularly for those with asthma or respiratory sensitivities.

Daily highs through Friday will stay between 91°F and 97°F, with overnight lows in the upper 70s. Rain chances are trending lower just in time for Independence Day, but the region remains in a “hot and humid” pattern. Scattered storms may still pop up in the afternoon, especially Tuesday through Thursday.

Officials recommend limiting outdoor exertion during peak heat hours and staying hydrated. The dust may also impact visibility and air filters, so residents with sensitivities should stay indoors and run air conditioning.

While fewer storms may help weekend events, the combination of heat and lingering dust will still demand caution.

More updates will follow if rain chances shift or if air quality alerts are issued.
