New Orleans, LA – A warm and wetter-than-normal pattern is setting up across Louisiana from Nov. 29th through Dec. 5th, with multiple rounds of rain expected as December begins.

According to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, temperatures are projected to run above normal statewide, including the New Orleans metro, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport, and northern parishes along the Arkansas line. With warm Gulf air dominating the region, all precipitation during this period will fall as rain, with no chance of early-season winter weather.

NOAA’s precipitation outlook shows a strong above-normal precipitation signal, indicating several systems may move across the Gulf South next week. New Orleans and the surrounding parishes may see frequent periods of steady to heavy rain, with tropical-style downpours possible at times.

South-central Louisiana — including Lafayette, New Iberia, Morgan City, and Houma — will likely see some of the heaviest rainfall, especially when deeper Gulf moisture feeds into passing storm systems.

Farther north, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Monroe, and Shreveport will also experience multiple rounds of rain, though totals may be slightly lower than along the Gulf Coast.

Forecasters stress that this pattern is not driven by one large storm but a multi-system wet setup, producing reduced visibility, slick roads, and localized minor flooding in poor-drainage and low-lying areas, including parts of the New Orleans metro.

As early December approaches, Louisiana residents should prepare for a warm, humid, and rain-heavy week.
