NEW ORLEANS, La. – A soft gray haze lingers over Lake Pontchartrain this Tuesday morning as Gulf moisture fills the air. Streets are damp, the breeze is warm, and the Crescent City is waking to one last humid stretch before crisp fall air finally arrives midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, skies will stay mostly cloudy through late morning before turning partly sunny. Highs will reach near 78°F this afternoon with a light northeast breeze. A few stray showers could brush parts of Jefferson and Orleans Parishes late tonight as a weak cold front edges toward the Gulf Coast.

That front clears the region early Wednesday, setting up a noticeable change. Sunshine returns, winds strengthen from the west, and gusts could approach 30 mph at times — enough to rattle balcony flags and scatter the first fallen leaves through the Quarter. Temperatures will hover in the mid-60s under clear blue skies, delivering the kind of refreshing air New Orleans hasn’t felt in weeks.

By Thursday and Friday, the weather pattern settles into a stretch of calm, bright fall days. Highs will range from the mid-60s to near 70°F with cool mornings and starry nights — perfect for outdoor dining, Halloween decorating, or catching a sunset walk along the levee.

Looking to the weekend, expect continued sunshine with highs in the lower 70s — a mild finish to October before November’s first real chill sneaks in next week.
