Louisiana – A calm, mild morning settles along the Gulf Coast as soft light reflects off the Mississippi River and streetcars roll under dry skies. Jackets feel optional for many early commuters as temperatures start in the mid-40s and climb quickly after sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service, today stays dry and warmer than average across southeast Louisiana. Highs reach the upper 60s in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, with light southeast winds keeping conditions comfortable. Clouds increase late tonight as the next system approaches from the west.

By Wednesday, rain chances rise sharply. Showers develop mainly after daybreak and continue through the morning before tapering by afternoon. Rainfall totals remain light, generally under a quarter inch, but wet pavement could slow travel during the morning commute. Drivers should expect slick roads on I-10, the Crescent City Connection, and key surface streets.

Behind the midweek rain, cooler and drier air moves in. Wednesday night turns noticeably colder, with lows dropping into the upper 30s. Gusty northwest winds follow, briefly pushing wind chills down early Thursday. To be fair, the chill does not last long.

Thursday brings bright sunshine and cooler highs in the low 50s. Conditions stay dry, and skies remain mostly clear into Thursday night. By Friday, temperatures rebound quickly. Afternoon highs climb back into the mid to upper 60s, setting the stage for a pleasant end to the workweek.

The weekend looks even warmer. Sunshine dominates, and highs approach 70 by Saturday and push into the low 70s Sunday. Longer-range outlooks continue to favor above-normal temperatures into late next week, hinting at an early February warm pattern across the Gulf South.
