Shreveport, Louisiana – Rain taps steadily on windshields this morning as low clouds press down across northwest Louisiana. Roads stay wet for now, but colder air waits just behind the rain, setting up a much sharper and potentially dangerous shift by the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, showers continue through today and into tonight, with additional rain likely Thursday. Temperatures remain mild through Thursday afternoon, keeping travel mostly manageable despite periods of reduced visibility and slick pavement during heavier rain.

Conditions change quickly Friday. Colder air pushes south, and rain may begin mixing with sleet or freezing rain by Friday night. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Friday morning through Sunday morning. Forecasters warn that ice accumulations could reach a quarter inch or more in some areas, with snow and sleet totals potentially climbing several inches across parts of the Ark-La-Tex.

Saturday brings the highest risk. Freezing rain, sleet, and snow are all possible, with temperatures struggling to rise above the mid-20s. Ice buildup on trees and power lines could lead to outages, while untreated roads may become nearly impassable. Travel may be severely limited in spots, especially on bridges and elevated roadways.

By Sunday, wintry precipitation may taper, but lingering ice could refreeze as temperatures drop again. Even after precipitation ends, hazardous travel could persist into early next week. Keep devices charged, check emergency supplies, and avoid unnecessary travel once temperatures fall.

Looking ahead, 6–10 day outlooks suggest below-normal temperatures linger across Louisiana, while active storm tracks continue across the southern U.S., keeping winter weather threats in play.
