SHREVEPORT, La. – A hot stretch across northwest Louisiana will break this weekend as a strong fall front brings thunderstorms, gusty winds, and a sharp cool-down by Sunday. After several days near 90 degrees, the region faces a much more unsettled Saturday afternoon and evening, especially for those traveling along I-20 or attending outdoor events.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a cold front moving in from Texas will spark storms across Caddo, Bossier, and De Soto parishes late Saturday. A few storms may turn strong, with heavy rainfall, lightning, and brief wind gusts up to 35 mph. Friday will stay mostly sunny and hot, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90—unseasonably warm for mid-October.

Rain chances increase through Saturday afternoon, peaking Saturday night when scattered thunderstorms are likely. Localized downpours could reduce visibility and slow travel on major highways, including I-20 and U.S. 71. Residents should secure outdoor decorations and monitor alerts, especially for lightning near evening football games or festivals.

By Sunday morning, skies will clear as cooler and drier air moves in. Highs will drop to around 80 degrees with noticeably lower humidity—perfect for fall outings or pumpkin patch visits. Early next week stays dry and seasonable before another weak front approaches Tuesday.

This weekend’s storms mark a shift toward more typical fall weather for Louisiana after an unusually warm stretch.
