Gretna, Louisiana – A stretch of early June heat will blanket southeast Louisiana starting Sunday, with a brief but noticeable chance of thunderstorms returning Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, a 20 percent chance of storms will move into the Gretna area late Sunday evening, mainly before 1 a.m. Otherwise, skies remain dry and mostly sunny through midweek with temperatures climbing steadily into the high 80s. Sunday’s high will reach 87°F, with Monday and Tuesday hovering in the same range before peaking at 89°F by Wednesday.

While storm chances remain low Sunday night, roads like LA-23 and US-90 could experience slick conditions if showers materialize. Drivers should remain alert during the evening commute and avoid travel in low-lying areas if rain develops.

Humidity will increase steadily, pushing heat index values higher as winds shift southeast by Monday. This will usher in a classic early-summer pattern—hot afternoons, mild nights, and isolated pop-up storms possible later in the week.

Looking Ahead: The Five-Day Forecast

  • Sunday (June 1): High of 87°F, increasing clouds
  • Monday (June 2): Sunny, 87°F, light southeast breeze
  • Tuesday (June 3): Sunny, high near 87°F
  • Wednesday (June 4): Mostly sunny, 89°F, storm chance late
  • Thursday (June 5): Slight chance of thunderstorms, highs in the low 90s

Expect summer heat and humidity to hold through the week. A renewed storm system may bring more widespread rain by Friday.
