NEW ORLEANS, La. – Strong northwest winds are sweeping across southeast Louisiana this Monday, prompting a Wind Advisory for New Orleans and several surrounding parishes through 7 p.m. CDT. Gusts could reach up to 40 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions and isolated power disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, the advisory covers Central and Upper Plaquemines, Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard Parishes. Winds are expected to remain steady between 20 and 25 mph, with the strongest gusts near open areas and along the coast.
Tree limbs and unsecured outdoor objects may be blown down, and a few power outages could occur as lines are strained under gusty conditions. High-profile vehicles, especially on elevated bridges and highways such as I-10 and the Crescent City Connection, should use extreme caution this evening.
Residents are urged to secure patio furniture, garbage bins, and Halloween decorations before nightfall.
Winds are forecast to ease late tonight as high pressure settles over the region, bringing calmer conditions into Tuesday morning.
Warnings remain in effect until 7 p.m.
