Shreveport, La. – Drivers along I-20 and I-49 will face dangerous heat Friday as temperatures climb near 97 degrees with no major break expected through the weekend. The National Weather Service warns residents to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and to watch for heat-related illness.
According to the agency, Friday will bring another day of mostly sunny skies and highs close to 97, with only calm evening winds offering minor relief. Overnight lows will stay warm around 74, keeping neighborhoods across Caddo and Bossier parishes from cooling down significantly.
Saturday’s heat continues with highs near 96 under mostly sunny skies, followed by a slightly cloudier Saturday night with lows near 72. Sunday remains hot, topping out around 95 with partly cloudy skies. These persistent temperatures may strain cooling systems and increase fire danger in dry areas.
City officials urge residents to check on elderly neighbors, keep pets hydrated, and never leave children inside vehicles. Travelers are also encouraged to carry water in their cars and plan for slower travel if heat impacts vehicle performance.
The extended outlook shows little change as early next week holds highs near the mid-90s. Officials say advisories could continue if heat indices climb further.
