Shreveport, Louisiana – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to sweep through Shreveport and northwest Louisiana this week, bringing the risk of heavy rain, lightning, and heat index values soaring above 100°F through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, storms will likely develop between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, with a 60% chance of precipitation and heat index values reaching as high as 103°F. Thunderstorm chances continue into Wednesday, especially after 1 p.m., with the probability of rain jumping to 70%. The weather service warns that locally heavy rainfall could lead to minor street flooding, especially in low-lying areas across Caddo and Bossier parishes.
Highs are expected to remain in the low to mid-90s through Saturday, with overnight lows staying in the upper 70s. Major roadways such as I-20 and I-49 could see slick spots during downpours. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during storms, stay hydrated, and check for local alerts. Power outages and brief disruptions are possible as storms move through the Ark-La-Tex region.
This round of summer storms marks some of the season’s highest heat index readings so far. The National Weather Service advises monitoring updates, as additional watches or warnings may be issued if storms intensify.
