Lake Charles, La. – Scorching heat and strong thunderstorms are the twin threats across Southeast Texas and South-Central Louisiana this Thursday, with heat index values climbing to 110°F and storms likely through 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. across the region, including Lake Charles, Lafayette, Alexandria, and Beaumont. Thunderstorms are expected to develop between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m., bringing the potential for heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and localized flash flooding—especially in parishes such as Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, and Iberia.

Rain chances range from 40–60% Thursday afternoon, with storm activity peaking during the evening commute. Roads like I-10 and U.S. 171 could experience brief flooding or delays. Areas from Morgan City to DeRidder are especially vulnerable due to high rainfall rates and saturated conditions.

Anyone outdoors should stay hydrated, seek shade frequently, and avoid travel during downpours. Power outages are possible in areas with strong winds or frequent lightning.

Storm chances remain high through Saturday, with slightly cooler temperatures expected Sunday. Additional heat and flood advisories may follow if conditions persist.
