Louisiana – Streetlights fade into a pale gray blur across southeast Louisiana this morning as dense fog settles over neighborhoods, bridges, and waterways. Visibility drops to a quarter mile or less in spots, making early drives across the metro slow and uncertain as moisture hangs low over roads and canals.

According to the National Weather Service office serving New Orleans and Baton Rouge, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning for much of southeast Louisiana and coastal Mississippi. Visibility reductions are most pronounced near Lake Pontchartrain, along the Mississippi River corridor, and across low-lying roadways. Drivers on I-10, I-610, U.S. 90, and the Crescent City Connection should expect sudden visibility drops and plan extra stopping distance.

Fog gradually lifts later this morning, but the Weather pattern stays active. Warm, humid air pushes temperatures into the upper 70s, continuing January 2026’s stretch of springlike warmth. Clouds thicken through the day, and showers develop tonight as moisture streams north from the Gulf.

Rain chances increase Friday, with periods of showers and thunderstorms possible. Brief heavy rain could cause ponding on streets and slower travel during peak hours. Winds may gust at times near stronger storms, especially along exposed bridges and causeways. Keep alternate routes in mind and avoid water-covered roads.

By Saturday, cooler air begins filtering into the region. Showers taper, clouds thin, and winds shift north. Sunday turns noticeably cooler and drier, with highs dropping into the upper 50s and breezy conditions adding a winter edge. Overnight lows dip into the 40s, a sharp contrast from recent mornings.

Any lingering moisture may dry quickly, but shaded areas could remain slick early. More advisories are possible as conditions evolve.
