Louisiana motorists are inching through thick fog across Lake Charles this morning, where visibility has dropped to a quarter mile in spots. Headlights glow faintly along I-10 and U.S. 171, and the air feels damp and heavy. Temperatures are holding near 59 degrees with calm winds, allowing fog to linger along waterways and low-lying roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, patchy dense fog will gradually lift by midmorning. After that, skies turn partly sunny with highs climbing to 77 degrees. A 30 percent chance of showers develops later this afternoon, mainly between midafternoon and early evening.

Fog redevelops late tonight with widespread dense fog possible before daybreak Thursday. Lows dip to around 56. Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra following distance during the early commute.

Thursday stays warm with highs near 75 under mostly sunny skies after morning fog clears. Friday continues the February thaw trend with highs near 76 and partly sunny conditions.

Valentine’s Weekend turns unsettled. Showers and thunderstorms become more likely Saturday, with rain chances rising to 80 percent. Highs reach the mid-70s before gusty southeast winds increase. Periods of heavy rain Saturday night could reduce visibility and create ponding on roads. Showers taper Sunday with partial sunshine returning and highs near 71.

Early next week remains mild, with upper 60s to low 70s continuing across southwest Louisiana. Long-range signals show temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees above average into late next week.
