New Orleans, Louisiana – A widespread Gulf Coast rain pattern is set to intensify by Wednesday morning, bringing repeated rounds of heavy rain and slower travel across Louisiana through the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Louisiana is in a high-confidence zone for above-average precipitation from Wednesday through Saturday, with totals expected to run 30 to 60 percent higher than normal. A strong signal for above-normal temperatures is also in place, with a 70 to 80 percent probability of warmer-than-average conditions across the Gulf Coast.

New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette are expected to see multiple waves of rainfall, increasing the risk of standing water on major corridors including I-10, I-12, and I-49. In southern Louisiana, including Houma and coastal parishes, heavier bursts could quickly overwhelm drainage systems, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Northern cities such as Shreveport and Monroe may also see ponding on roadways and reduced visibility during heavier rain bands.

Drivers should slow down on wet roads, avoid water-covered routes, and allow extra time for travel. Residents are urged to clear storm drains and secure drainage pathways, especially in flood-prone neighborhoods.

This active pattern is expected to continue through Saturday night, with additional advisories likely as rainfall totals and timing become more defined.
