Lake Charles, Louisiana – Flash flooding continues to impact much of western Louisiana, with significant rainfall accumulating overnight and into Wednesday morning. Drivers are advised to avoid travel if possible, especially on roads that may be submerged under water. The National Weather Service reports rainfall totals ranging from 1 to nearly 7 inches in parts of Calcasieu Parish.
According to the National Weather Service, flash flood warnings are in effect for much of the region, including areas around DeRidder, Leesville, and Ragley, until 8 a.m. this morning. Heavy rain continues to fall, and roadways may remain treacherous for commuters. Those who must travel are urged to drive cautiously and to avoid any flooded roads, which could pose both a direct danger and potentially cause water to flow into homes.
Rainfall has already caused significant flooding, with multiple areas in Calcasieu Parish seeing totals over 5 inches, including parts of Lake Charles and Sulphur. Additional rain is expected to persist throughout the day and into Thursday, potentially causing more localized flooding.
Residents are reminded to remain prepared for the possibility of more rain and should monitor local advisories for further updates on flood warnings.
