Lafayette, LA – A dense fog advisory is in effect Sunday morning, with drivers across south-central and southwest Louisiana expected to face hazardous visibility from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, visibility could drop to one-quarter mile or less across key areas including Lafayette, Lake Charles, New Iberia, Cameron, and Vermilion. The advisory also covers portions of southeast Texas, including Beaumont and Port Arthur, highlighting the widespread reach of the fog system.

Morning commuters should expect delays and difficult travel conditions on major routes such as I-10, U.S. 90, and local highways. Drivers are advised to slow down, use headlights, and maintain safe distances between vehicles. Coastal and marine zones, including Sabine Lake and Atchafalaya Bay, are also under a separate dense fog advisory from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m., with visibility at sea dropping to one-quarter nautical mile or less.

This advisory comes as spring humidity and calm winds combine to create optimal fog conditions. Such dense fog events are typical in the region during transitional seasons but still pose significant travel hazards.

Authorities urge motorists and mariners to remain alert and delay travel or navigation when possible until conditions improve.
