Shreveport, Louisiana – Brutal heat and late-day storms are set to hit Louisiana again as a summer weather alert continues into Friday, August 1st, threatening power disruptions and traffic slowdowns across Shreveport and surrounding parishes.
According to the National Weather Service, heat index values could spike as high as 107°F Friday afternoon, while a 40% chance of thunderstorms looms after 2 p.m. The agency’s Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday, but lingering humidity and triple-digit highs will still make Friday hazardous, especially for drivers along I-20 and U.S. Route 71.
Friday’s high will hover near 96°F, with thunderstorm chances increasing late in the day. Winds will shift from northwest at 5 mph before calming overnight. While not every area will see storms, those that do could experience lightning, downed limbs, and minor street flooding.
Weekend weather will ease slightly. Saturday stays steamy at 90°F with a 50% chance of afternoon storms, especially east of Caddo Parish. Sunday brings more sunshine with highs around 92°F, but heat precautions still apply.
Looking ahead, the first week of August will keep Shreveport in the oven:
- Monday: Mostly sunny, near 93°F
- Tuesday: Sunny and hot, near 96°F
- Wednesday: High near 97°F under clear skies
Residents should limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Heat and storm alerts may extend into early next week.
