Lake Charles, LA – A warm and dry stretch will dominate the week across Central and Southwest Louisiana, but forecasters are monitoring the rising Atchafalaya River and a potential return of thunderstorms by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, temperatures will climb steadily into the mid to upper 80s by Friday. Skies will remain mostly clear through Saturday with only slight chances of rain during evening hours. The next significant chance for showers arrives Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, with storm chances reaching 40%.

Meanwhile, nine river gauges across Southwest and Central Louisiana and Southeast Texas remain at action to moderate flood stage. The Atchafalaya River is expected to continue rising slowly through the week, cresting over the weekend. Other area rivers will begin to gradually fall through the weekend.

Localized flooding may continue in low-lying areas, parks, and roads near affected rivers. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain alert and monitor river conditions daily.

No hazardous weather is expected through Friday, but residents should stay updated as rain chances increase by the end of the weekend. For safety, avoid driving through flooded roadways and prepare for elevated river levels in the Atchafalaya Basin region.
