Gretna, LA – Thunderstorms and heavy showers could disrupt weekend plans across southeastern Louisiana as storm chances rise sharply Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, Gretna and surrounding areas face an 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms beginning late Saturday morning through the evening. Forecasters urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, especially along U.S. Highway 90, where localized flooding may occur. Gusty winds and heavy rainfall are possible, raising safety concerns for drivers and outdoor plans.
Saturday’s high will reach 77°F, but cloud cover and precipitation will dominate the day. Southeast winds between 10 to 15 mph could intensify during thunderstorms. By nightfall, rain chances decrease to 40%, but scattered storms may linger through early Sunday.
Sunday will bring a reprieve with partly cloudy skies and a high of 82°F, though there remains a slight chance of isolated showers. Wind speeds will increase slightly from the south, with gusts nearing 20 mph.
The extended forecast looks promising. Monday through Wednesday shows a dry trend with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-60s, offering mild evening conditions.
Residents are advised to monitor local weather alerts and secure outdoor furniture ahead of the Saturday storms. Keep flashlights and emergency supplies handy, especially in areas prone to power outages.
