Louisiana Weather Alert: 4 EF1 Tornadoes Confirmed Saturday Night Across Lake Charles Area

Lake Charles, Louisiana – Four EF1 tornadoes and one EF0 tornado tore across southwest Louisiana within a 90-minute window Saturday night, damaging homes, snapping trees and destroying outbuildings from Lake Charles to Port Barre.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, storm survey teams confirmed five tornadoes on February 14, with peak winds ranging from 80 to 95 mph. The strongest circulation tracked near Port Barre between 10:11 and 10:13 p.m. CST, producing estimated winds of 95 mph along a 0.75-mile path. Several outbuildings were destroyed, sheet metal roofing was lifted from a home along LA 741, and a pontoon boat and horse trailer were flipped before the tornado lifted south of LA 190.

In south Lake Charles, an EF1 tornado with 90 mph winds touched down near Pinewood Drive just before 9 p.m., crossed Highway 14 and damaged mobile homes, roofing and large live oak trees. Another EF1 developed near Crooked Creek Reservoir, snapping trees and damaging multiple outbuildings.

A brief EF0 tornado near Hancock Road produced 80 mph winds and minor structural damage, while the Lyons Point Gully tornado snapped trees and destroyed an outbuilding near Ruby Lane.

No injuries or deaths were reported. Survey teams say additional assessments may take several more days as they review storm reports across the region.
