Shreveport, Louisiana – Wildfire risk is set to spike across the ArkLaTex within the next 24 hours as strong winds and very dry air move into the region by Saturday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, northeast winds will increase Saturday with gusts topping 20 to 25 mph, while humidity levels drop as low as 21 to 27 percent during peak afternoon heating. This combination creates conditions where fires can ignite easily and spread rapidly.
The elevated threat covers a wide area, including northwest Louisiana, east Texas, southern Arkansas, and southeast Oklahoma. Parishes such as Caddo, Bossier, and Webster will be especially vulnerable, along with nearby communities like Texarkana and El Dorado.
Even small sparks—from outdoor burning, equipment use, or discarded cigarettes—could quickly turn into fast-moving grass or brush fires under these conditions. Officials strongly advise against any outdoor burning and urge residents to secure chains, avoid parking on dry grass, and use caution with machinery.
The wildfire threat will peak Saturday afternoon and could persist into the evening before winds gradually ease.
Additional alerts or expanded restrictions may be issued if conditions worsen across the Four State Region.
