Port Allen, LA – A Florida man was killed Friday evening when his tractor-trailer overturned along Interstate 10 in West Baton Rouge Parish.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the fatal crash occurred shortly after 5:15 p.m. Friday near milepost 150 on I-10 eastbound. Troopers from Troop A responded to the scene, where they confirmed that 47-year-old Jose Vasquez of Citrus Springs, Florida, died after his vehicle struck the median and overturned.

Investigators reported that Vasquez was driving a 2005 Freightliner eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the truck veered left, entered the median, hit a cable barrier, and flipped. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the extent of the damage, troopers said it is currently unknown whether Vasquez was wearing a seatbelt.

A toxicology sample will be collected and submitted for further analysis as the investigation continues.

Troopers reminded the public to prioritize safety behind the wheel, urging drivers to avoid impairment, fatigue, or distractions, and to always ensure proper seatbelt usage. They emphasized that even though not all crashes are survivable, taking precautionary steps can be life-saving.

Anyone with additional information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Section – Troop A.
