Natchitoches, LA – A Tornado Watch is in effect for western and central Louisiana until 8 p.m. Monday as thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes and damaging wind gusts intensify across the region. Residents are urged to remain weather-aware and have safety plans in place.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center, areas within 60 miles east and west of a line from 45 miles north of Natchitoches to 90 miles southwest of Fort Polk are at risk. Scattered storms may develop into supercells capable of producing tornadoes, as well as wind gusts reaching 65 mph.

The NWS advises all residents to monitor weather alerts and seek shelter immediately if a Tornado Warning is issued. Outdoor objects should be secured to prevent damage, and travel plans should account for sudden changes in weather conditions.

This Tornado Watch underscores favorable conditions for severe storms, with the most active period expected in the late afternoon and evening hours. Aviation operations in the region may also experience significant disruptions due to turbulence and strong winds.
