Lake Charles, LA – The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is warning residents across southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas to prepare for a very wet weekend as an area of low pressure moves through the region from Friday night through Sunday.

Forecasters say most areas will see 3 to 4 inches of rain, with localized totals possibly reaching 5 to 6 inches, particularly around Beaumont, Orange, Jasper, and Lake Charles. There is a 30% to 55% chance of rainfall exceeding five inches across parts of southeast Texas and western Louisiana, while Acadiana has a 10% to 20% chance of similar totals.

The system will bring a warm, tropical air mass capable of producing slow-moving thunderstorms, increasing the risk for localized flooding in urban areas and along smaller creeks and drainage zones.

Even with recent drought conditions, the heavy rainfall could lead to street flooding and temporary travel disruptions. Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads and to monitor forecasts closely throughout the weekend.

According to the weather service, this system may also help significantly reduce ongoing drought across the region by early next week.
