Louisiana drivers are navigating through thick gray air this morning as dense fog blankets Lake Charles and much of southwest Louisiana. Visibility has dropped to just a quarter mile at times, and headlights barely cut through the haze along I-10 and Highway 14. Conditions are hazardous right now.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. CST for south-central and southwest Louisiana and parts of southeast Texas. Cities including Sulphur, Westlake, Jennings, Lafayette, Port Arthur, and Beaumont are also impacted. Visibility of one-quarter mile or less is possible in dense pockets.

Drivers should slow down immediately, use low-beam headlights, and increase following distance. Avoid sudden lane changes, especially on elevated roadways and bridges where fog can thicken quickly. If visibility drops suddenly, ease off the accelerator and stay steady in your lane.
