Louisiana skies over Lake Charles feel calm early this morning, but the air carries the edge of a changing spring pattern. Winds are already beginning to stir across the Gulf Coast, and stronger gusts are expected to arrive as the day unfolds.
Conditions may turn breezy and dry enough to raise wildfire concerns across southwest Louisiana and nearby southeast Texas.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. today through 6 p.m. Monday. Northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are expected across the Lake Charles metro and surrounding coastal parishes.
Cities including Lake Charles, Sulphur, Jennings, and Beaumont, Texas may feel the strongest gusts through the afternoon and into Monday.
Drivers traveling along Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 171, and Highway 90 could encounter sudden crosswinds on open stretches of road. High-profile vehicles should use extra caution on elevated bridges and near coastal marshlands.

Behind that system, cooler and much drier air sweeps into the region Monday.
Meteorologists are also monitoring critical fire weather conditions Monday morning through Monday evening, when low humidity and gusty winds could allow fires to spread quickly. Outdoor burning is discouraged.
