Louisiana – A brisk northwest wind sweeps through the ArkLaTex this morning, rustling trees and pushing crisp air across the Shreveport metro. Sunshine will gradually brighten the sky, but the air remains sharp and dry as a cold March pattern settles over north Louisiana.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. across northwest Louisiana and parts of east Texas. Northwest winds between 15 and 20 mph with gusts approaching 30 mph may make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles on open roadways.
Drivers along Interstate 20, Interstate 49, and U.S. Highway 71 should expect occasional crosswinds during the morning and afternoon. Loose outdoor items may be blown around as the wind continues through the day.
Temperatures climb only to around 50°F this afternoon, despite clear skies. Dry air and steady winds will keep the air feeling cooler than the thermometer suggests.
The bigger concern arrives late tonight.
A Freeze Warning takes effect from midnight through Tuesday morning, when temperatures could drop to around 29°F in Shreveport and surrounding communities including Bossier City, Minden, and Marshall, Texas. Sensitive plants and early spring vegetation may be damaged by frost.
Residents should cover outdoor plants, disconnect hoses, and bring pets indoors. Even brief freezes can damage gardens that began growing during recent warm weather.
The cold snap fades quickly as the pattern shifts.
By Tuesday afternoon, sunshine returns with highs near 58°F. The warming trend accelerates midweek as southern winds develop.
By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures rebound into the low 70s, and spring warmth expands across the ArkLaTex.
