A Freeze Warning is in effect tonight into Monday morning across portions of Louisiana and southeast Texas, with temperatures expected to plunge into the low 20s, creating dangerous cold conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, the Freeze Warning runs from 8 p.m. CST Sunday through 9 a.m. CST Monday, while a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday. Forecasters say hard freeze conditions are expected in some inland areas, with temperatures falling as low as 20 to 22 degrees for several hours.

The warning impacts much of south-central and southwest Louisiana, including Rapides, Avoyelles, St. Landry, Calcasieu, Jefferson Davis, Acadia, Lafayette, and Vernon Parishes, as well as parts of southeast Texas, including Jasper, Newton, Hardin, Orange, and Tyler Counties. Cities affected include Lake Charles, Lafayette, Alexandria, Beaumont, Orange, and Jasper.

Wind will worsen conditions, with north winds gusting up to 35 mph in some areas. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as 15 to 20 degrees, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia for anyone exposed without proper protection.

Officials warn that freezing temperatures could burst unprotected pipes, damage crops, and kill sensitive vegetation. Power outages are also possible due to gusty winds bringing down tree limbs.

Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, protect tender plants, wrap or drip exposed pipes, and check on elderly neighbors. Travelers should dress in layers, wear hats and gloves, and limit time outdoors during the coldest hours.

The cold snap marks one of the coldest nights of the season, with dangerous conditions expected to persist through early Monday.
