New Orleans, LA – Flood warnings remain in effect across parts of Louisiana and Texas as rising river levels continue to threaten homes, roads, and recreational areas. Officials caution residents to remain alert, with flood stages expected to crest in several locations before receding later this week.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans, the Pearl River near Pearl River is experiencing minor flooding, with levels peaking at 15.3 feet late Monday night. The flood stage is 14 feet, and while water levels are set to decline by early Wednesday afternoon, roads near Honey Island Swamp and approximately 20 homes along the left bank remain at risk. Additionally, the Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge has been closed to hunting due to high water levels.

Meanwhile, the Mississippi River at Red River Landing is also under a flood warning, with water levels currently at 51.3 feet—above the 48-foot flood stage. The NWS projects the river will stay elevated until March 10, potentially impacting recreational camps and river-bottom farmland from Red River Landing to Baton Rouge.

In Texas, Rabbit Creek at Kilgore is forecasted to rise above its 10-foot flood stage by Tuesday afternoon, reaching a peak of 11.2 feet before dropping below flood levels by Wednesday morning. Flooding may affect trails and private boat launches in the area.

Authorities urge motorists to avoid flooded roadways and exercise caution near riverbanks. For updates, residents can visit www.weather.gov/lix.
