New Orleans, Louisiana – Thunderstorms could drench parts of New Orleans by early Thursday afternoon, prompting safety concerns along I-10 and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans/Baton Rouge, storms will begin developing after 1 p.m. Thursday, with chances rising to 80% by late day. These storms could bring heavy downpours and brief gusty winds, especially during the evening commute. Highs will reach 91°F, with west winds around 5 mph.

Drivers should allow extra time on roads like I-10, I-610, and LA-39 as brief street flooding may occur during heavier showers. Power flickers are also possible in isolated areas. Stay alert for lightning and avoid outdoor activities after noon.

Friday looks much the same: storm chances remain high between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., then taper slightly into the evening. Saturday continues the trend, with a 60% chance of afternoon thunderstorms and a high near 92°F. Expect more sun between showers, but don’t be caught without rain gear.

Nighttime lows will stay warm in the upper 70s, with calm winds and muggy air hanging around through the weekend.

Looking ahead, the heat continues to build. Sunday through Tuesday will feature stormy afternoons and highs rising steadily — peaking near 94°F on Monday. With limited wind relief and no major cold fronts expected, residents should stay hydrated, monitor power usage, and limit time outside during peak heat.

Storm chances remain in the forecast through at least Tuesday, July 15. Stay tuned for updated advisories from the NWS.
