Lake Charles, La. – Severe thunderstorms could slam central and southern Louisiana through early Friday, bringing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the threat of flash flooding across multiple parishes.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) is in place for parts of the state through 7 a.m. Friday, including Alexandria, Leesville, Oberlin, and Oakdale. Damaging winds over 58 mph and hail larger than one inch are possible, particularly in areas north of I-10. A marginal flood risk also extends into Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Morgan City, where downpours from slow-moving storms may overwhelm drainage in low-lying areas.

Isolated to scattered storms are already developing across the region, with highs in the mid-80s and gusty southerly winds pushing moisture inland. The combination of heat and humidity is fueling thunderstorms capable of producing quick bursts of heavy rain. Drivers in Beaumont and Port Arthur should watch for ponding on roads by late afternoon, especially along U.S. 69 and I-10.

Residents are urged to stay weather aware, charge phones in case of power outages, and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. Showers and thunderstorms may continue into Saturday, with updated alerts expected from the NWS later tonight.
