Spring weather in Southwest Louisiana brings a mix of challenges today. A Wind Advisory is in effect across the region, with sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph, gusting up to 40 mph. This advisory will remain in place until 7 p.m. this evening, impacting areas from Lake Charles to Lafayette. In addition to the winds, minor coastal flooding could affect local waterways, reaching between 1.5 and 2 feet during high tide periods, particularly in coastal areas like Cameron and Pecan Island.

As the weather system moves through the area, residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects to prevent potential damage and reduce travel difficulties caused by the gusty winds. If you’re driving, especially on I-10, exercise caution, as these winds may affect high-profile vehicles.

Looking ahead, the threat of severe thunderstorms is increasing, particularly on Saturday, as a slow-moving cold front moves through the region. Damaging winds, large hail, and even tornadoes are possible, with rainfall leading to localized flash flooding risks. These storms will likely begin Saturday afternoon and continue into the night.

By Sunday, temperatures will cool, offering a brief respite before another round of showers arrives. The upcoming week will bring mild conditions with highs ranging from the upper 60s to the low 70s.

Extended 5-Day Forecast:

  • Thursday: Highs in the low 80s, mostly clear.
  • Friday: A slight chance of rain, highs near 85°F.
  • Saturday: Severe weather risk, highs ranging from 79-85°F.
  • Sunday: Cooler, highs around 62-70°F.
  • Monday: Rain showers likely, with highs between 65-68°F.

Stay tuned to local weather reports for updated advisories and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
