Ruston, LA – A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of northern Louisiana, with damaging winds and hail expected through late Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport, severe thunderstorms were detected at 10:07 a.m., moving east at 35 mph. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 70 mph and quarter-size hail, which could damage vehicles and structures. The warning remains active until 11:00 a.m. CST.

Areas affected include Ruston, Minden, Grambling, Jonesboro, Homer, Junction City, and several other communities across Bienville, Bossier, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Union, and Webster parishes. Residents are urged to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building to avoid flying debris and potential structural damage.

The NWS warns that these storms could produce brief tornadoes and significant wind damage, even if tornadoes do not form. A tornado watch remains in effect for portions of north-central and northwestern Louisiana until 3:00 p.m.

Residents should remain alert to rapidly changing weather conditions and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts. Avoid traveling in the affected areas until the storm passes, as strong winds and falling debris pose hazards to motorists.
