Lake Charles, LA – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Southeast Texas and central, south-central, and southwest Louisiana from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, with dangerous fire conditions expected. Strong winds and very dry air will increase the risk of wildfires across the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles, gusty winds behind a cold front will drive relative humidity levels as low as 15%, with sustained winds between 15 to 20 mph and gusts reaching up to 30 mph. These conditions will create an environment favorable for the rapid spread of fires.

Officials urge residents to avoid activities that could generate sparks, such as burning debris, discarding cigarettes improperly, or using equipment that could ignite dry vegetation. Parking vehicles on dry grass or dragging chains that might create sparks should also be avoided.

Fire danger will remain high throughout the day, and residents are advised to stay updated on local fire restrictions. Authorities emphasize the importance of preparedness and urge caution until conditions improve.
