Youngsville, LA – A Thibodaux man was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle early Wednesday in Lafayette Parish, authorities said.

According to Louisiana State Police, the fatal collision occurred around 7 a.m. on Wednesday on Louisiana Highway 339 near its intersection with Simon Road. Troopers from State Police Troop I responded to the scene where a 42-year-old motorcyclist, Dustin Ayo of Thibodaux, was pronounced dead.

Investigators said a 2013 Nissan Sentra was traveling northbound on LA 339 and attempted to make a left turn onto Simon Road when it entered the path of a southbound 2025 Suzuki motorcycle operated by Ayo. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Nissan. Authorities suspect Ayo was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.

Ayo, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Nissan, who was properly restrained, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under active investigation.

Troopers emphasized the importance of making responsible driving decisions, noting that speeding reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes. They encouraged all motorcyclists and motorists to utilize safety equipment and consider safety training courses offered by the Department of Public Safety.
