Louisiana and Mississippi are under a Tornado Watch as severe thunderstorms threaten the region this evening and into the early hours of Wednesday. A couple of tornadoes, damaging winds up to 70 mph, and large hail up to 1.5 inches are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
The watch, in effect until 1 a.m. CDT, covers parts of Northeast Louisiana and Southeast Louisiana, as well as Southwest and Central Mississippi. The severe weather threat is expected to intensify through the evening, with supercells and line segments potentially increasing the likelihood of tornadoes, strong wind gusts, and large hail.
The affected area stretches roughly along a line 60 miles east and west of Monroe, Louisiana, and 75 miles south of McComb, Mississippi. Residents in these areas should remain alert, stay indoors, and avoid traveling if possible. Authorities are urging individuals to monitor local weather updates and be prepared for potential tornado warnings.
Severe thunderstorms with hail and intense winds are expected to develop, with dangerous conditions for both residents and aviation. Passengers should also expect possible turbulence and significant wind gusts.
