Vernon Parish, LA – A Pitkin man was killed Friday evening after his truck crashed and overturned on Louisiana Highway 463, near Moore Road.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred around 9 p.m. Friday. Troopers reported that 57-year-old Brian Perkins of Pitkin was driving a 2017 Ford F-250 northbound when he allegedly failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. Perkins’ vehicle subsequently left the roadway, hit a ditch embankment, and overturned.
Perkins sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that it’s currently unknown whether Perkins was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples were collected for routine analysis, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Although the exact cause of the accident is under investigation, Louisiana State Police emphasized that distracted and inattentive driving is a leading factor in fatal crashes throughout the state.
Troopers urged drivers to remain alert and focused while operating their vehicles, stressing that even momentary lapses in attention can have fatal consequences.
Anyone with additional information about this crash is asked to contact Louisiana State Police Troop E.
