Calhoun, Louisiana – A West Monroe woman was killed in a head-on collision on Louisiana Highway 151 Sunday night in Ouachita Parish.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop F, the crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday just south of Louisiana Highway 144. Investigators say the collision claimed the life of 36-year-old Rachel Rushing of West Monroe.

Authorities report that a 2015 GMC Sierra, driven by 27-year-old Noah Short, was traveling southbound on LA 151 when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by Rushing. The crash occurred in the northbound lane.

Rushing, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. A front-seat passenger in the Nissan, who was also properly restrained, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Short, who was reportedly unrestrained, was not injured.

Although troopers stated impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities continue to examine the cause of the crash and urge motorists to drive safely and avoid distractions or impairment. Louisiana State Police emphasized that decisions behind the wheel can have serious consequences, urging drivers to stay focused and alert.

Anyone with additional information regarding the crash is encouraged to contact TFC Ryan Davis at the Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Office at (318) 345-2810 or ryan.davis@la.gov.
